Stand Up and Work Challenge: Day 15

Congrats! You’ve made it to the end of Week 3 of your four-week transition to a standing desk.

By making gradual daily changes, you’ve worked up to standing for three full hours per workday. Nice job.

And today’s assignment is…

Stand for 180 minutes.

How’d it go?

Leave a comment below when you finish your allotted standing time for the day.

  • Had a really hard time focusing today, and standing didn’t help. I find that it’s still hard for me to really focus on some tasks when I’m standing. Coding I can do, but for some reason writing doesn’t work as well. I’ll be interested to see if that changes over time.

    • interesting, I’ve had the same thing… although just starting coding seemed to be quite hard, but when going, it’s ok… other tasks (writing emails, journal/blog, …) seem to be hard…
browsing the nets and watching youtube is easy, though 😀

  • I’ve been away for a few days, so haven’t really worked standing up, but today I decided to just go with the 180 minutes, and see what happens…
well, it’s quite hard, but thankfully, I’ve had quite a few calls, so I’ve been “walking” around a bit, so it was easier…
still feeling determined to see this through and move to working standing up most of the time

  • I, too, find that certain tasks seem better suited to standing than others. For me, conference calls while standing are now de rigeur. I can write emails, and do collation-type tasks easily while standing, but some other tasks seem easier while sitting. Interesting that others are the same!

Note: I didn’t quite make the full 3 hours today, but that had more to do with the time of day than anything (I had early meetings where I was in a conference room and I don’t like to eat lunch while standing).

  • The standing today was pretty easy, which is probably due to running around a bit. On the subject of writing while standing, I’m not a coder, but I had some pretty intense writing that had to be done during the end of a semester of grad work and I used my home standing desk to tackle it. At one point I had the required book open on the desk next to my laptop and I was writing as I read. I also had a few lengthy reports due in a short timeframe. All of this was contained within a two week period and I put a lot of the credit to completing the tasks to standing for most of the time.

Usually, I’d have been fighting sleep and struggling to stay focused, but I was quite alert and was able to get it all finished. This was part of what convinced me that this was going to be a lifesyle for me.

  • I made it through the challenge today in 1 session! It was easier than I thought it would be, but I was pretty busy today. Maybe that means I finally turned the corner everyone kept talking about earlier.
